The National Statistics organisation produce a comprehensive survey on Contraception and Sexual Health, to monitor the annual trends in the UK.


Some quick stats for you from their October 2005 report:
  • 40% of men (and 47% of women) had used a condom in the previous year. These were more likely to be from younger age groups and those with more than one sexual partner.

  • 67% of men (and 63% of women) said their behaviour had not changed due to their knowledge of HIV, AIDS and other STDs.

  • 4% of men (and 7% of women) said they had an STD test when they changed their sexual partner.

  • 74% of men (and 80% of women) had only one sexual partner in the previous year.

  • 94% of men interviewed only had sex with women - with 1% only having sex with other men. 4% had no sexual relationships in the previous year.

  • 7% of women had used the "morning-after" pill at least once in the year.

  • 25% of women were not using any form of contraception.

  • The most popular method of contraceptive with women was the pill (25%), the the condom next (22%).
